Houston fans certainly got their money's worth at The Astrodome. John Candelaria(10-10) pitched a rare no-hitter as the Houston Astros toppled the River City Rascals 3 to 0.
Candelaria gave the home town fans an evening that they'll never forget. He walked 3 River City batters. The tension was mounting with every inning after the 6th. Candelaria appeared oblivious himself to the mounting history until two were out in the 9th. Only then, did he allow himself one deep sigh and a slow trip around the mound. Houston had just 6 hits for the night.
Lynn McGlothen(12-9) ended up with the loss. He pitched 5 innings and surrendered just 3 hits and no walks. Candelaria was in a jubilant mood after the game. 'If I'd known I was going to throw a no hitter I would have gotten a haircut!' he said, much to the delight of the clubhouse gathering.
