Dennis Eckersley(8-3) was on top of his game in Milwaukee as he tossed a beauty of a no-hitter against the Sacramento River Cats. The Milwaukee Brewers won by a score of 3 to 0.
The partisan crowd cheered every Sacramento out from the 7th inning on. He walked 2 Sacramento batters. The tension was mounting with every inning after the 6th. Eckersley appeared oblivious himself to the mounting history until two were out in the 9th. Only then, did he allow himself one deep sigh and a slow trip around the mound. Milwaukee rapped out 9 hits for the night.
Alan Wirth(1-3) was the loser. He surrendered 1 run and 3 hits in 4 innings. Eckersley was in a jubilant mood after the game. 'If I'd known I was going to throw a no hitter I would have gotten a haircut!' he said, much to the delight of the clubhouse gathering.
