History was made in Reading as Dennis Lamp(7-2) tossed a no-hitter and the Reading Pretzles defeated the Baltimore Terrapins by the score of 3 to 0.
Lamp provided a brilliant, unforgettable performance for the hometown crowd at Veterans Stadium day. He walked 2 Baltimore batters. The Reading players and coaches started to leave Lamp alone with his thoughts after the game reached the 7th inning. By the time the 9th inning rolled around, you could hear a pin drop every time he went to his wind-up - and an explosion after every out. Reading managed only 6 on the afternoon.
Bob Knepper(10-6) took the loss. It took a while to pry Lamp way from his teammates as they all wanted to show their appreciation and joy. Finally, however, Glen Macnow got to offer his own congratulations with a big bear hug and the comment, 'That was one of the best pitched games I have seen in all my years in baseball - Lamp was masterful out there this afternoon!'
