Newark fans certainly got their money's worth at Riverfornt Stadium. Frank Tanana(1-0) pitched a rare no-hitter as the California Angels toppled the Newark Bears 3 to 0.
Tanana had overwhelming stuff tonight. He simply never gave the Newark batters a decent pitch to drive. He walked 2 Newark batters. What an evening for the fans. They were on the edge of their seats from the 7th inning on. With every out, the electricity in the air mounted. California managed only 2 on the night.
Fredie Norman(0-1) ended up with the loss. He gave up 2 hits and 6 walks in 8 and 2/3 innings. 'I gave it everything I had. It's probably the greatest day of my life,' Tanana said. 'I was out there focusing on my catcher's glove, that's all. I just concentrated on pitching my game.'
