Chuck Cary delivered 8 solid innings as the Texas Rangers beat the San
Francisco Golden Seals by a score of 4 to 2.
Texas took the lead for good in the top of the 6th inning scoring 2 runs
utilizing 3 base hits. Luis Polonia led off the inning for Texas when he
lashed a single. Paul O'Neill came to the plate and ripped a base-knock.
O'Neill was safe on a stolen base. Alvin Davis came up and he was hit by a
pitch. Franklin Stubbs stepped into the box and lined a one-base hit which
scored a run. After an out was recorded, Craig Biggio came to bat and would
ground out scoring the final run of the inning. Neither team was able to
score until the 6th inning.
Cary(1-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 8 innings. Cary got help from
Alejandro Pena who earned his 1st save. Rick Mahler(1-1) was hit with the
loss. He surrendered 6 hits and 1 walk in 6 and 2/3 innings.
